About the role

As a Senior Data Engineer at Ascent, you get to work at the heart of our customer businesses to understand their data needs, identify possible problems and help them develop solutions. You’ll join our practice of market-leading data professionals and work typically as part of a cross-functional team on customer projects, supporting their journey through digital transformation, or helping them do existing things in a much better way.

What you'll do

As a senior data engineer, you will work closely with stakeholders to elaborate requirements and build data assets that help our customers create business value. You will explore source systems, automate data ingestion, define target models, and build data engineering pipelines to transform data through cleaning, aligning, transforming, conforming, joining, aggregating, etc to optimize data for business consumption.
 

Skills and experience required

  • Solid knowledge of Azure data services, including Data Factory, Data Lake Gen 2, Synapse and/or Databricks and/or Fabric
  • Experience with modern, spark-based cloud data platforms 
  • Python Data Engineering (primarily PySpark)
  • Data factory orchestration and transformation
  • Medallion Architecture
  • Data Modelling (Kimball)
  • SQL 
  • Good communication and presentation skills

Nice to have
- Exposure to PowerBI
- Exposure to a wide variety of data source (e.g. NoSQL DBs, ERPs, APIs, etc)

We work in Agile methodologies as a preference, so being comfortable working in this way is important. You should be comfortable in a customer-facing situation where you’ll need to communicate clearly and effectively in English – often with people who might not be as technically experienced, so good written and verbal English skills are important. You should be someone who is passionate about team collaboration and knowledge sharing, with the passion and drive to achieve goals and targets.
